
Today, I have searched through the +Nexus community in Google+ looking at how different users customized their homescreen. Regardless of the phone model that you have, I think all customizations shown below can be done. These, modifications, would require you to use a widget, perhaps a launcher and in some cases special apps like the "Tasker". The stock android 4.2 home screen can be seen above for comparison.
Simple Homescreens
This usually involves a little tweaking. Simple wallpaper change, app shortcut arrangement, downloadable icons and a simple widget such as a battery and time widget shown below.

Go ahead and play around with your home screen. I tell you, it is addictive and brings out your creativity. Try out different launchers, widgets and apps to satisfy your requirement.
